Economics at the Movies: The Cove - Trade in Dolphins

There are many high quality albeit harrowing documentaries about the exploitation of common resources driven by personal greed and the profit motive. The Cove is one such example and may not be on the radar of many students and teachers.
The Cove is a 2009 documentary - winner of a prize at the Sundance Festival - that exposes the tragedy of dolphin slaughtering in Japan, and also the dangerously high levels of mercury in dolphin meat and seafood, the cruelty in capturing dolphins for entertainment, and the depletion of our oceans fisheries by worldwide seafood consumption.
