Economics at the Movies: Seabiscuit and the Depression

There is a scene at the start of Chapter 4 in the DVD version of Seabiscuit in which the background to the Great Depression of the 1930s is explained. The film itself provides an evocative and compelling story and might be a good one to use when teaching the difference between a recession and an economic depression - although Seabiscuit does not provide the main explanation for lifting the USA out of a deep slump!
