Economics at the Movies - Goodbye Lenin

Geoff Riley

20th October 2010

An award-winning German language comedy from a few years back provides a super background for teaching economic systems and differences in living standards. An East German mother falls into a coma and - by the time she awakes - the Berlin Wall has fallen and a process of reintegrating East and West is well underway. Her son tries desperately to maintain his mother’s room in the style of the old Eastern Bloc - a lovely comic scenario played out to hilarious effect. Our clip below provides the trailer for this film.
