The Royal Society of Chemistry has called for economies to focus more on mining so-called e-waste for rare earth metals rather than the planet itself, as we bid for sustainable growth.

According to one study, 57 million tonnes of electronics were discarded in 2021 alone, and things like mobile phones and computers contain metals such as gallium, yttrium and tantalum all of which have many uses.
