Using this House of Commons Library Research Briefing, scroll down the page a little to the chart called Public Sector Net Borrowing, financial years, % of GDP and then a little further for Public Sector Net Debt, monthly, % of GDP, then answer the following questions:

1. Using the Government borrowing chart, identify two significant features of the trend since 1974/5.

1. Explain how changes in government borrowing affected the trend in Public Sector Net Debt since 2008 using examples of data from the charts.
