Competition policy - an investigation into government intervention to promote competition in markets [Year 12]
17th June 2020
The enrichment task for Year 12 students this week introduces them to financial markets and to government intervention in the form of regulators and competition policy. It is set against the background of a market which may be far from their minds at the moment - the pensions market, in which the Financial Conduct Authority has just published a report into mis-selling by financial advisers.
The task presents them with some information about this market, and asks them to research this and also to select another recent investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority, in order to make a comparison between the reasons for, conduct of and outcome from the two investigations. The document that can be opened from the link below contains links to the relevant websites, and a format for their report.
