CMA to investigate possible price collusion in baby formula milk industry
20th February 2024
Another competition policy story with the Competition and Markets authority going to investigate baby formula manufacturers, after a preliminary report saw the price of baby formula had increased by 25% over the last two years, which might have cost many families an extra £500 in the first year of their baby's life.
The market is effectively a duopoly - with food giants Danone and Nestle - accounting for 71% and 14% of the UK market, respectively. It is feared that they might have colluded to drive up the price of formula and not provided perfect information to parents.
