Can the government make us happy? Should it try?

Geoff Riley

11th November 2016

This is a short interview with the Nobel prize-winning economist Angus Deaton. His work is concerned with the factors that raise economic well-being and the extent to which these influences are under the control of government. Should a government target aggregate happiness? Is there a difference between happiness and life satisfaction?
