This Bloomberg video looks at the supposed decline of Starbucks - falling sales and a lack of a coherent strategy - but will the appointment of a new CEO, Brian Niccol, turn the company around? This is a nice clip that looks at how Starbuck grew by establishing itself as a 'third place' and decommoditizing coffee and making it aspirational. Today, the cafe experience has evolved such that the majority of the drinks they serve in the US today are cold. The rise of customisation has stretched the ability of baristas to serve customers and encouraged the unionisation of employees. So how are they going to plot a way forward?
