Budget 2017 - Interactive starter or homework activity on Hammond's Grand Budget
8th March 2017
So, Phillip Hammond has delivered his first Budget and I'm sure we all 'wish him luck' going forward (I'm sure there are no great economic shocks coming in the near future!). Here is a quick interactive activity using some of the key points form today's Budget.
Players of this activity are asked 3 questions: which of the given announcements will have the most positive impact on the economy, the most impact on reducing government debt and the most impact on improving equality. In each case, they rank Hammond's announcements and proposals in terms of their level of impact.
The activity is designed to get students to be aware of the announcements and policies that Hammond has made and to think about how these may be used in possible answers to upcoming exams.
The resource has some suggested outcomes but, as always in economics, this is open to opinion and if you or your students disagree then please do have a heated debate - application of the suggestions is the key learning point here.
