Bartering in Greece
19th January 2011
Not that long ago, I blogged about the long suffering Zimbabweans and how they´d resorted to bartering after hyper inflation had rendered their cash worthless. Here´s another example from the BBC about the development of a bartering system in Greece. Examples include young people exchanging clothes for clothes and even more innovative, there´s the Athens Time Bank where people swap their skills instead of demanding payment - in return for cutting an English teacher´s hair, a hairdresser gets lessons for her son. Or another lady who “deposits credit” in the Time Bank for caring for the elderly and in return gets relationship counselling from a psychologist.
