Baltic Dry Index Suggests Stormy Times for Global Economy

The cost of hiring a freight-liner to carry products around the world has collapsed in recent months. If the Baltic Dry Index is any guide for the global economy, the picture is looking decidedly stormy. It's plunged to historic lows since the start of the year. However some commentators believe that a sharp fall in the price of renting container ships is mis-leading. The fundamental problem seems to be huge excess supply in the container shipping industry and some businesses are struggling to survive.
