AS Micro: Complementary Goods - HD TVs and Make Up Artists

Unique example from the Freakonomics blog to use when we teach about Complements - two goods which are separate and different but are often used in conjunction with each other - “this means a good’s demand is increased when the price of another good is decreased.”

The quality of the picture on HD TVs means that it´s more difficult to hides one´s blemishes and imperfections therefore this has increased demand for the services of make up artisits! As this high definition technology becomes cheaper (rightward shift of the supply curve), demand for the goods and services that complement this format, like make up artists, increases.
