Amazon - A Business Built to Make Losses?

Geoff Riley

16th July 2015

I really enjoyed reading an article on Amazon from Rory Cellan-Jones, the Technology Correspondent at the BBC. In a telling quote he says "Throughout its history, Amazon has seen its revenues climb inexorably while its profits hover around or below zero." The ubiquitous online retailer has posted impressive revenue growth in recent years but huge capital expenditure means that net profit and the current returns to shareholders remain very thin.
