Works Councils

A works council is a group of employee representatives within an organization. It's a type of employee involvement or participation system that is designed to give employees a voice in decision-making and to improve communication and cooperation between management and employees. Works councils are most commonly found in Europe, but they can also exist in other parts of the world. They are typically elected by employees and are made up of representatives from different departments and levels within the organization. Their main responsibilities include:

  • Consulting with management on decisions that affect employees, such as changes to working conditions, health and safety, and employment policies.
  • Negotiating agreements with management on behalf of employees.
  • Representing the interests of employees in disputes or grievances.
  • Promoting employee involvement and engagement within the organization.
