What’s The Connection - Developing Exam Skills

This is very simple yet very effective activity that can be used as a bellwork, starter or plenary activity. What's the connection involves having two concepts on the board and asking students to simply make the connection. It is an excellent activity for developing the higher order skill of analysis. Typical 'What The Connection' examples include, What's The Connection between:Lean Production and Cash Flow?Acid Test and Bank Loan?Price Elasticity of Demand and Contribution?Labour Productivity and Profit? This activity is also very good for differentiation by task. Here, different students can be given different concepts to connect with more able students being given concepts that are 'further apart'.Another differentiation strategy is to give less able students a middle connection to help 'bridge' the gap between the two concepts.A nice one as we enter exam season....
