What makes a good business idea?

This Powerpoint can be used as a discussion starter to look at what makes bad and good business or product ideas and what elements are essential for a business or product to be a success.
This Powerpoint shows inventions that have actually been patented around the world. It can be used as a discussion starter looking at what business ideas need in order to be a success (students tend to like the pussycat). I ask students to briefly consider the following points for each invention and then have a brief feedback and discussion:
1. Positives of the idea/invention
2. Negatives of the idea/invention
3. Why do you think they were not a success?
4. Can you suggest improvements or ways that this idea/invention could become a success?
I then lead on to getting students to suggest what features or factors a product or business needs to be a success. This usually leads into an introduction of product and marketing orientation and the various benefits and drawbacks of the different approaches.
