Hundreds of thousands of business students have just started their new courses and we wish them and their teachers every success!A key part of doing well in on any business course is to develop knowledge and understanding of how businesses operate in real life. The theory and terminology can appear a bit daunting at first, but it become much easier if you take a little time each week to watch and read the business news stories. It helps bring your studies to life.There are so many easy ways of doing this. Here are some of our top suggestions.

Keep up to date with the business news

You should try to read about at least one business news story each day or so. For A Level and IB business students, that should be at least one major business story every day!

Twitter is a great way of doing this - follow some or all of these feeds and pick the links that interest you (don’t forget to share a great link too!)

@BBCBusiness

@BusinessDesk (Guardian Business news)

@ReutersBiz (great for leading international business stories)

@ftfinancenews (FT business news)

@BW (Bloomberg Businessweek - essential for advanced students looking at international business)

@SkyNewsBiz (a good, lively alternative to the BBC and Guardian)

@TheEconomist (usually very high quality analysis of the bigger stories - use to build depth of understanding)

Learn from the insights of key business commentators

Let these superb journalists take the strain for you - and learn from their analysis:

@bbckamal (switched from the Telegraph to the BBC and is building an excellent reputation)

@Peston (absolutely essential)

@lindayueh (no-one better at covering the key international business stories, particularly in emerging markets)

@ruskin147 (simply the best for business & technology)

Entrepreneurs & Business Leaders on Twitter

Where else can you follow some real-life entrepreneurs & CEOs and perhaps also contact them?

Forget the usual suspects - celebrity entrepreneurs and publicity-seekers. Try some more authentic business people.

Here are some of our absolutely favourites who we highly recommend you follow:

@LukeJohnsonRCP (Hard to think of someone providing better insights into entrepreneurship & management)

@harrietgreen1 (CEO of Thomas Cook; big supporter of Business studies & a top leader too!)

@Kirsty_Henshaw (One of the most famous and successful pitches on DD - inspirational)

@LauraTenison (founder and MD of JoJo Maman Bebe -phenomenal energy and passion for business)

@iAmWilliAmKing (the entrepreneur behind King of Shaves - a social media leader)

@fraserdoherty (a long-time favourite of business teachers and a top bloke too)
