Kerry Katona’s sacking from the Iceland adverts (read the full story here) raises an interesting question - is it a good idea to use celebrities in advertisements?

There’s a potted history, with some notable successes:
- Walkers Crisps using Gary Lineker
- Tesco and Morrisons have both used a range of celebrities over recent years
- Sainsbury’s have had great success with Jamie Oliver

But there are also been some disaster stories:
- Marks and Spencer dropped Jodie Kidd after newspaper revelations
- Gucci & Yves Saint Laurent kept their faith with Kate Moss, despite negative newspaper revelations
- Now Iceland have lost patience with Kerry Katona after a string of personal problems

So are celebrity adverts effective? Well Brand Republic did a straw poll - you can watch the video here.

Then have a go at this quiz to see if the celebrity factor has had an impact on you… and then make your own mind up.
