Trio - Team Challenge (5)

Michelle Stephenson

28th September 2009

Trio is the name, 3 rounds is the game! Three different formats used to test students’ knowledge of HRM (my current teaching topic) and recent business news stories. However, the template can be easily adapted to suit any topic or subject.

How to play:

The animated game show host and cheesy theme tune, sets the scene for the challenge ahead. Three rounds, Conveyor Belt Challenge, Have I Got News for You and Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.

Round 1 – Conveyor Belt Challenge

This combines Jim’s idea of the Memory Challenge with my memories of Bruce Forsyth, (Nice to see you, to see you, nice!) the Generation Game and the Conveyor Belt!.
Students will be shown 10 key terms, which hurdle their way across the TV screen. Without any pen or paper to note them down, they are required to remember all 10 terms.
Once the terms have been seen, students are given the answer sheet on slide 9. They must write down the terms they can remember and associated definitions.
2 points are awarded, one for each term remembered, one for the correct definition.

Round 2 – Have I Got News for You.

Clicking on the image of the famous quiz show, takes you to the next challenge. The theme tune plays, as you explain the rules.
Students need to identify the recent news story or headline from the images presented. Answers can be recorded on the answer sheet, on slide 10.
Answers and web links to the news stories can be seen on the notes view of PowerPoint
1 point awarded for each correct answer.

Round 3 – Gimme, Gimme, Gimme
The famous quartet set 4 questions, requiring students to “Gimme” stages, problems, reasons and influences on workforce planning.
4 points for question 1.
1 point for question 2
1 point for question3
2 points for question 4

Download the PowerPoint here.

For the Risk Factor Challenge this week, you will need a pipe (approx 1.5 m long) and a ball (small enough to pass through the pipe). With the help of 2 willing volunteers, the pipe is held on an angle. The contestant must drop the ball into the pipe and catch it when it comes out with the same hand.
