Topic Tennis

2nd July 2009

This is a cracking starter/ plenary activity that goes down great this time of year.

Extremely easy to carry out with zero preparation.

I invite 2 students to come to the front to play a game of ‘topic tennis’. I name a topic (today I did franchising) and the two students take it in turns to say words that relate to the topic. Its a bit like word association but in this game, the words don’t have to directly associate with each other, as long as they relate to the topic in question.

The game is played until we run out of words. The rest of the class then discuss which key words etc the two students missed out. You can also play it by splitting the whole class up in 3’s, two being the players and one being the referee. Whole class interaction. Excellent for revision and diagnostic assessment…
