Toblerone Fans Miss the Point
8th November 2016
Toblerone have altered the look of the classic Toblerone chocolate bar by increasing the gap between the 'triangles' to reduce the weight of what was the 400g and 170g bars.
Mondelez International, the company behind Toblerone has said that the move was down to a rise in the cost of ingredients and has decided to reduce the weight of the bar rather than increase the price.
The change has resulted in a 400g bar being reduced to 360g and the 170g bar being reduced to 150g
Mondelez said that "like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients" and that "we carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products."
However, the move has angered many loyal Toblerone fans who have criticised the move on the Toblerone Facebook page, with many feeling that they should have reduced the length of the bar and retained the chunky triangles.
