Taking Business Studies outside

Ben Cahill

25th September 2012

After seeing a few posts on the Economics blog about getting students outside to do various activities, I thought that I would get my Business students outside on what was a beautiful day. There are not as many graphs in Business as Economics but I asked them what they thought they would be able to make with only themselves to do it.

We threw around a few ideas such as the Boston Matrix (stumbled a bit on the cow but one student said she would bring in a soft toy for another go later in the week), Maslow's Hierarchy, but settled on the Product Life Cycle. I got them to plan who would be what and would go where, so there was some genuine revision happening as well! The result is below and it might even make for a nice little teaching tool as a poster and / or display in the room.

Next year I might even do it before I teach it and can then talk about individual students "being growth" or something else. In any case, the students and I were glad to get out of the classroom on a nice day!
