Strategy in action - Mitchell & Butlers stays focused

A great example of a focus strategy in the news, with the announcement that pubs & dining group Mitchell & Butlers has agreed to sell Hollywood Bowl to rival AMF Bowling.

The BBC reports on the strategic decision of M&B to exit the indoor bowling market.

Mitchell & Butlers has sold its Hollywood Bowl chain for £27m to AMF Bowling as part of its strategy to concentrate on its pubs and restaurant brands, such as All Bar One, Toby Carvery and Vintage Inns.

The vast majority of MAB’s sales are made through its around 2,000 pubs, bars and pub restaurants in the UK, so the Hollywood Bowl disposal makes sense as a way of releasing cash from the sale of non-core assets to invest further in the core markets.

There is a useful pdf summary of MAB’s business structure and strategy here on their website.
