Reshoring: Clarks moves shoe manufacturing back to the UK
12th July 2017
Here is a really good contextual example of reshoring. The shoe manufacturer Clarks is moving some of their production back to the UK from China.
The employment effects will be relatively modest because the Somerset factory will be heavily capital-intensive making extensive use of robotic technology.
An expanding number of businesses have announced reshoring investments recently including:
- Cadbury's
- Clarks
- McLaren
- Northern Flags
- Telensa
- Vodafone
But here is a cautionary report from the Financial Times drawing on a quote from Adidas
