Recession latest - demand from couch potatoes likely to rise

As the recession bites, how should we spend our leisure time? Will staying in really become the new “going-out”? Consultants Deloitte believe that one effect of the recession will be an increase in the number of hours we spend at home viewing media such as television and Internet…

The Telegraph reports today how Deloitte have already identified a recent increase in average television viewing times. This is potentially good news for the commercial television channels that are suffering from a decline in advertising revenues. But it might be bad news for other segments in the leisure sector which rely on consumers foresaking their homes and getting out to spend their leisure pounds.
