Profits from protection - a great example of entrepreneurial skill
21st December 2008
A fascinating, though brief article in The Sunday Times today about a Yorkshire entrepreneur who has created a stunning success story with a product much in demand in some of the most dangerous places on earth…
The article describes how former miner Jimmy Heselden has generated substantial profits from his innovative civil engineering products. His company Hesco Bastion made profits last year of £31m on £196.5m turnover compared with a profit of £13.4m on £81.6m the year before.
According to the Hesco Bastion website:
“Since 1989 HESCO Bastion Ltd has been developing and manufacturing Concertainer® units for the purposes of force protection, flood protection and erosion contol. Concertainer units have become the most popular means within the military of protecting personnel and facilities against secondary fragmentation, saving countless lives and mission critical assets.”
A quite stunning export success story.
