Post exam activity - Sixth Formers do The Apprentice

Jim Riley

10th June 2009

Many thanks to Phil Wheeler from Thomas Alleyne School for letting me know about his post-AS exam project for business students.

Just after attending our AQA BUSS3 INSET day, Phil was jetting off to meet his Year 12 students at a local Mothercare (with the permission of the store manager of coruse!).

He would arrive, Sirallun-like, to bnef the students on their task. which Phil describes below:

—————————————

The way it has worked out in our school is we have 8 students for Y12’s and 4 Y13’s (redoing AS) so that is a nice split for the teams.

We have a two teacher delivery which splits the topics quite nicely but can be adapted.

The anticipation on the faces was electric and you could see they were really up for the challange.

The powerpoint below will be shown with the theme music from the show at the start of each lesson. The students will have a total of 15 lessons for questions etc but the rest of the time required will need to come from them. Got the theme music from itunes for 79P.

I launched the task in the lesson but then took them to the local Mothercare (with the companies permission) to have a look around at the many products on offer.

A prize will be organised for the winners something like cinema tickets etc but more than a chocolate bar.

Hope this is useful for other teachers who may find the next few weeks difficult to motivate the students.
