Online marketing at children

The British Heart Foundation have been campaigning recently about the actions of junk food companies marketing at children online.
Using a variety of social media and mainstream coverage, the BHF have been raising awareness about the lengths companies will go to, to reach children online.

A possible use of this material would be to run the Lardbar exercise with a group, before looking at this link with your students. You could show them this video clip as an introduction - if you can it may be worth extracting this video snippet for later use. The accompanying text gives a good outline of the main issues.
The BBC magazine have published an article on this issue on April 30th questioning if Mr Potato Head is to blame for the rise in pester power. It is 60 years since the bulbous fella hit the screens and since then there has been an explosion of focus on kids advertising.
