Milk co-operative turns sour
4th June 2009
A rare example of a form of business organisation that used to feature regularly in business textbooks has entered insolvency…
The business has:
- A turnover of £562m turnover
- 2,200 employees
- 1,800 farmer members, and
- a 10% share of UK milk production
The business is a co-operative named Dairy Farmers of Britain. But DFB has been forced into administration due to significant losses.
Might the result be higher milk prices in the supermarkets?
