Linear Twitter Chat: 04/09/13

Last night was our first ever twitter chat using the hashtag #bizteachat and was on the subject of linear and the challenges that this brings.
Several teachers took part in the chat and it was great to share concerns, strategies and techniques in relation to the move to linear exams.
A transcript of lasts nights discussion can be found here, however, I have collated some of the key points that were raised from last nights discussion.
- A concern was made in relation to GCSE and students remembering all the content. A strategy to combat this is to use starters in every lesson that refer back to previously taught concepts and topics so that it remains fresh. A brilliant suggestion (for those teaching Edexcel) was to use multi-choice questions from Year 10 at the start of Year 11 lessons.
- More use of end of topic tests and mock exams to ensure students remain focused throughout the year
- A greater focus on exam technique at the start to ensure that students get it right first time
- Teachers spending more time on general essay technique at the start of A2
- Using scrapbooks for students to collect and collate real business stories at the start of A2
- Drip feeding the research theme throughout A2 (for those teaching AQA)
- Using the first 10 minutes of a lesson to link previous lessons together (there was a superb example of a linking lessons board! Well worth looking at)
- More group work, discussion and collaborative learning
All in all a fantastic hour and I'm really looking forward to the next one. Details to follow shortly.
