Jack's - Quality + Price is Key to Success When Competing with Aldi and Lidl
22nd September 2018
A food article here, but packed with business gold!
Jack Monroe is famous for her recipes based on the cheapest, basic foodstuffs. She's tried the initial offerings from Tesco's Jacks (no relation) - and is not impressed!
Monroe makes a good point that "cheap" is not enough. There is a base level of quality that customers seeking low, low prices will expect in order for Jacks to be competitive against the discount supermarkets.
This quote sums up the challenge facing Tesco as it tries to build market share in the discount sector:
"If it wants to take over the Aldi/Lidl market, it needs to up its game because people have come to expect a certain quality from budget foods. Aldi and Lidl, and even the value ranges at the supermarket, have set a standard that newcomers have to achieve or exceed."
