Is this a good business idea, or a passing fad?

I came across this interesting short video clip on BBC South-East this week about a couple of teachers who have set up a new enterprise named “Passing Buys”...

The aim of the Eastbourne-based business is to combat the rising price of food by allowing their customers to sell surplus fruit and vegetables from their gardens, or swap it for something else.

The business sounds very worthy, but there has to be a question mark about the viability of this start-up? The teachers concerned have five children to look after, so the enterprise has to earn some kind of return.

The question for your students might be - is this worthy idea doomed to fail?
