Is the supermarket food gamble over?
23rd February 2017
Felicity Lawrence writes in the Guardian about the nature of the global food supply chain, arguing that there's a need to rethink current methods of production. There's a fantastically Guardianesque entree about "living and working with Afghan refugees in Pakistan’s North-West Frontier province for a long period" being the catalyst for a period of reflection.
However, perhaps we really are at one of those moments that offer a chance for a rethink of supply chains. For me, the realisation that satsumas, and other small citrus fruit, are no longer seasonal was the indicator of the global nature of the supply chain. And I didn't need to go to Afghanistan for that.
