The challenges of implementing new inventory management and e-commerce systems are on display here with news that Waterstones has a large backlog of unfulfilled book orders.

The Guardian reports here on the frustrations felt by customers who are still waiting for their book orders to be sent by Waterstones.

Upgrading to a new system is always a process that can easily go wrong. The consequences are negative not just for Waterstones sales, but also for stakeholders such as authors whose new books are missing out on sales.

Let's hope this is all resolved in good time before the traditional seasonal surge in book sales for Christmas.
