Introducing Fling - Mars’ first new confectionery product launch for 20 years

13th July 2009

I’m more than surprised that global confectionery giant Mars hasn’t launched a new brand for 20 years (according to the FT). But that has just changed with the arrival of a new chocolate product aimed fairly and squarely at women…

Fling Chocolate is the brand. Lots of launch materials here which could prove useful for student research and discussion

According to the launch blurb:

“FLING™ is a sweet, light truffle on a subtle crisp layer enrobed in shimmering chocolate that’s as glamorous as you are. At under 85 calories per finger, it’s slim, but not skinny. Indulgent but not greedy. Naughty but nice.”

85 calories per finger. That seems to be the USP. Except that I doubt a consumer is likely to stop at just one finger? The product is shipped in two packet options:

- a Single pack of two milk chocolate fingers (i.e. 190 calories), and a
- Multi-pack carton with 10 individually-wrapped milk chocolate fingers (that’s 850 calories assuming they are munched in one go)

Still, lots of scope for some schoolboy humour in the tutor2u office and/or staffroom when we all return. Anyone fancy a Fling?
