International Business | Domino's Withdraws from the Home of Pizza
10th August 2022
It's all over for Domino's Pizza in Italy.
Who would have guessed that Domino's Pizza wouldn't succeed in Italy?
However, the BBC reports that the franchise that runs Domino's in Italy has now closed, forced into bankruptcy.
Since it opened in Italy in 2015 using a franchise model, Domino's has faced intensive competition from traditional pizza restaurants who are increasingly offering delivery through apps such as Deliveroo and Just Eat.
Rising operating costs and lockdowns during the pandemic have further added to the franchisee's losses.
Perhaps the reasons above explain why Domino's failed to gain a sufficiently large slice of the Italian pizza market.
Or could it be that Italians prefer proper pizza at affordable prices?
