How a teacher made US$1million selling lesson plans!

This may be the dream of many teachers - the long hours spent crafting that lesson and unit plan are rewarded with positive learning outcomes for your own students and then onsold to thousands of other teachers willing to pay relatively small amounts for your work.

The TeachersPayTeachers website is growing fast with more than 15,000 teachers now advertising their original classroom materials. Of course not everyone is making lots of money, but Deanna Jump is the undoubted star, having earned $1 million in the last year and a half. Ms Jump is a (now former) kindergarten teacher whose unit plans have proven to be very popular with thousands willing to purchase her lessons, for example the dinosaur unit.

Of course, this is the complete opposite of what I am doing now as I blog for tutor2u, sharing resources collaboratively! But it is a great little case study of first mover advantage as well as the benefits of scale - selling into a large market which because of the internet is (for Ms Jump) now all English speaking kindergarten teachers!

The article detailing her success and more on the TeachersPayTeachers website can be found here.

I will assume all of your cheques are in the mail...
