Headhunter - Suggestions for other ways to use the resource in teaching
13th December 2008
Delegates to our AQA AS Business Unit 2 teacher workshops got the chance to try out our new Headhunter resource, and then to take the whole thing away with them to use in their teaching.
During the workshops we explored alternative uses of Headhunter and ways in which it could be embedded into effective business teaching. Here, as promised for the delegates, are those great teacher suggestions…
Altering the way Headhunter is delivered:
- Provide some or all of the students with applicant notes without the names, pictures or other details (e.g. age). E.g. name the candidates Applicant A, Applicant B etc
- Ask students to provide reasons why they rejected rather than selected candidates. What factors led to an applicant being rejected?
- Get individual students to role play each of the candidates
- Ask students to prepare a job and person description for each of the three vacancies
- Use Bono’s Hats to to consider the relative merits of the candidates
Extension activities
- Produce a skills gap analysis for rejected candidates
- Bring in a recruitment consultant to assess who she/he would pick and why
- Identify which employment legislation is relevant to the process of picking the three candidates
- Describe a recruitment process that would help the case study business identify and recruit the best candidates
