Flexibility is a key part of exporting success

A good example here of a UK firm that has enjoyed some success through exporting.

Burts Chips, the niche potato chip maker, has managed to gain retail distribution in markets such as Taiwan and Holland. Burt’s has focused strongly on its export activities which now account for £3m of the firm’s £8m turnover. Some good evidence here for students on what it takes to be successful in exporting. A key point made is the need for flexibility, to enable a firm to respond to different and changing customer needs in each export market. The need to identify and work with effective partners in international markets is also emphasised.
