Entrepreneur takes advantage of the postal strike
24th October 2009
As the turkeys at the Royal Mail officially vote for Christmas, entrepreneurs are quick off the mark spotting opportunities to build a business from the Royal Mail’s dissatisfied customers. Here is a terrific video which is packed full of full with key business studies terms - even though it only lasts just over a minute!
This short video provides an excellent example of one such entrepreneur.
Ken Holder runs City Cycle Couriers - a one-man alternative to the Royal Mail in Plymouth. He was featured on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning and on other stations too - explaining how his small, locally-focused postal service is winning business in the three postcodes he services in Plymouth. Ken stated that he was delivering around 300-350 mail pieces per day currently - and he says his business is now profitable. The profits will surely rise as the mail volumes per mile cycled grow - since there is almost no extra cost involved. But Ken will face challenges growing his capacity and business - an interesting issue for business students to consider.
