Enterprise Activity - The Apprentice Meets Beachcomber

Patrick writes:

“Here is some information regarding a Business Studies event I do with mainly Year 10 students.

They seem to thoroughly enjoy the tasks and in particular when they have got products cheaper than their friends! Communication, negotiation and team working skills are developed. The follow up is by getting the groups to discuss how they worked together, did a natural leader come to the fore etc? Tasks and information to be gathered could be easily adapted dependent on the local area.

Here are the instructions and the tasks:

INSTRUCTIONS

Year 10 Business Studies Trip to Bude

Inside this plastic wallet you should have:-

• A list of what you need to get/find out
• Some paper, a pen & an envelope
• Put your team name & people in your group on the front of the envelope
• You MUST obtain a receipt for each item purchased – make it clear as to what you have bought
• Failure to obtain any items/information will result in points being deducted
• Make sure you purchase/find out the information you have been asked for
• A £10 note
• You have until 12.30pm, by which time you MUST be back at the minibus in the car park
• Mr Gray will be the final judge
• The winning team will be the one that has the most points & the others will all get fired!

REMEMBER: You have until 12.30pm by which time you MUST be back at the coach in the car park

TASKS

You need to obtain the following by 12.30pm today:-

• 1 inflatable beach ball
• 1 tennis ball
• 1 Mills & Boon book
• 1 mug with a cat on
• 1 small minced beef pasty
• 1 Malty Munch ice cream
• 1 pair flip flops turquoise size 7
• 1 yellow beach bucket
• 1 postcard of the Canal in Bude
• 1 Embossed metal ID plate for bedroom door with the name of a person in your group
• 1 Wild West sheriff star
• 1 stick of rock
• 1 coloured notepad
• 1 bagel

Don’t forget to ask for a receipt for every purchase

In addition you need to find out the following information by 12.30pm today:-

• What are the high & low tides times for today?
• When was Bude Canal completed & what did it carry?
• If you buy an ice cream (near the water), how much are they showing outside 1 euro is worth?
• How much does it cost to hire a boat on the canal per hour?
• How much does Ripe n’ Roasted charge for corkage?
• Who was The Castle Bude once home to?
• What new supermarket is shortly opening in Bude?
• What is flying at the Brendon Arms?
