Employee / Employer Relations Under Strain As the Cost of Living Crisis Drives Greater Industrial Unrest
17th July 2022
After a long-term decline in industrial action such as strikes, employees and employers in the UK appear to entering a new phase of worsening relations.
The rail strikes in June 2022 are perhaps the most prominent example of increasing industrial action. However, strikes are being planned in a wide range of industries.
This article from the BBC explores the reasons for rising industrial unrest. The article title is a little misleading. Of course not "everyone" is going on strike.
However, despite falling trade union membership in over the last few decades, there are still plenty of employee groups who are looking to use industrial action as a lever to negotiate higher pay. The impact of rising consumer price inflation, creating a "cost of living crisis" is a key influence.
