CSR in the Ad Break - Dettol
14th March 2011
I’m indebted to Vanessa McGowan at Bolton Sixth Form College for making a superb suggestion that followed on from our CSR at the Movies series. How about CSR in the Ad break, featuring examples of products, brands and firms that are keen to emphasis their environmental and social responsibilities?
Vanessa kicks the series off with an A* star example…Dettol.
If, like me, you are a big fan of weekday morning television (particularly The Wright Stuff and This Morning), you’ll have seen this advert airing regularly [what do you mean you have to teach during the morning? )
Dettol has launched its Mission for Health. Here is the promotional message from their dedicated campaign website (including facebook page):
We know your family means everything to you. You’ll do anything to keep them happy and healthy. We believe that health depends on the choices we make every day at home, in our community and beyond. That’s why we have started a Mission for Health. Our mission is fuelled by passion and backed by our expertise in disinfection, hygiene and first aid. From the products we make, to the education we provide, and the causes we champion: We’re inviting you to join our Mission. A Mission for Health..
Does it make you want to choose Dettol compared with the other branded and own-label competitors fighting for your attention and purchasing choice on the supermarket shelves? If so, why? Are you convinced by the CSR-friendly message? Show it to the students - what do they think?
One final lesson trick to get them thinking. Show the students the UK version of the video (above) and then play the US version from You Tube below & play spot the difference:
