Come fly with me!

Jim Riley

12th July 2011

I initially used this with my tutor group as a way of encouraging students to interact and welcome new students. Since then, I have used it in my business lessons and it works really well as a fun plenary activity!

Students make their own paper plane. On their plane they write their name, something they have learnt within the lesson and a question that can be asked to the rest of the class to assess their learning within the lesson.

The teacher then plays ‘Come Fly With Me’ (via iPod rather than sing…) and students spend a few minutes flying their plane and others’ around the room until the music stops.

When the music stops, every student picks up a plane (not their own) and they take it in turns to read out the name of the student they have found, what that student has learnt and the question - which they must answer (that way everyone gets a turn!)

FYI - within the tutor period, students wrote the following info on their planes:

Name
Year group
A like / hobby / interest (I like…)
A dislike (I don’t like…)
A claim to fame (or something else interesting about you!)
