Can Willie Walsh save his job?

Jim Riley

2nd April 2008

According to Jeff Randall, the Telegraph’s influential business columnist, the CEO of British Airways has just a week or two to sort out the Terminal 5 mess, or he will be looking for his next job. Randall has just conducted a fantastic interview with Willie Walsh on Sky News that challenges the CEO on his performance.

Randall interview Willie Walsh on Sky News today - the interview lasts 10 minutes and is streamed here:

What went wrong? According to Walsh, it was lots of small problems, not all of BA’s making, that led to the baggage system not being able to cope. But he doesn’t go into detail (of course).

It really is a cracking interview, full of great business studies material.

- Employees saying they weren’t properly trained
- Staff writing about the problems on blogs and social networks
- Walsh is the CEO, he takes full responsibility, but will not resign
- Deregulation of Heathrow (Open Skies) and what it might mean for BA
