17th March 2008

At the ICT in Business & Economics Conference (29 Feb 2008) we demonstrated the use of Camtasia - a really useful software tool for developing e-learning materials, including video capture and editing.

To recap the key points:

Camtasia can be used for a variety of tasks:

- Creating podcasts
- Capturing streamed videos from websites (providing the capture is permitted by the copyright permissions of the content owner)
- Editing audio-video clips and saving them in different formats
- Pre-lesson videos that students can download
- Burn onto a CD for a revision programme - e.g. two clips for each main topic
- Use as a stimulus for student research - create an exercise building on the clip
- Great bridging tool during a lesson - the classic 1 or 2 minute video clip as an illustration
- A revision tool - capture a revision lesson on your screen and email it / CD burn it for students / put on a VLE /network

Camtasia is a commercial product, available from TechSmith
