Calderstones School - Teaching and Learning Marketplace

15th November 2013

I'm a massive fan of the work that Calderstones do in relation to teaching and learning and I'm sure that anyone who follows the numerous twitter accounts that Calderstones have will testify to this. I was therefore delighted when I received an invite from the Deputy Headteacher, Lee Ratcliffe to attend their 'Learning Marketplace' inset day on Monday and I just wanted to share the format of the day which I think is exceptional and shows how high up teaching and learning is on their agenda.Every department within the school has an allocated time slot of 30 minutes during the day. For example, after a short introduction from Lee the day starts of with English, Music and Learning support between 10:15 - 10:45 then from there it is the turn of MFL, Art and RS between 10:45 - 11:15 etc etc.All staff then circulate the other departments and see what teaching and learning strategies they do best. At the end of the day is a whole school plenary where everything is pulled together. What a fantastic idea!I can't wait to see the whole day in action and I will blogging about the day when I am back home in Weardale on Tuesday.
