BUSS2 May 2011 - That Question (1(c)

The water has passed under the bridge; the exam has been marked. But I’m still getting emails from AQA centres complaining about the second rogue question on BUSS2 in May 2011. AQA say it was fine (although Qfqual contacted me on Friday to confirm that AQA are aware of two errors on the BUSS2 paper, not just the one error (ROCE) about which they wrote to centres outlining the process of special consideration. Maybe question 1(c) is the other error? Who knows - I suspect we never will. Anyway, here are a few thoughts on that question, which pick up the many comments I’ve received from disgruntled colleagues recently. I suppose it just goes to show how difficult it is to write a good exam question and how even experienced teachers can disagree on whether a question is up to standard. Take care with this question is you set it for mock papers in the future!
