Britain’s Got Talent - Extending the Brand

1st June 2009

I’m still bemused about how the Great British Public didnt proclaim Stavros Flatley as the winner of Britain’s Got Talent…

Has there ever been a bigger miscarriage of justice in a reality show? Probably not.

However, in the aftermath of the 2009 show, there is a terrific example of how to extend a product or brand. The Live Tour.

I think this will be the second year in which a selection of finalists and semi-finalists from the TV show travel around the UK performing a Live Show version of the competition. The press suggest that each participant is paid £500 per night (less agents fees!), with a 3-star hotel and tour bus thrown in for good measure. I suspect that the Live Tour is incredibly profitable - with all the ticket promotion having effectively been done by the wall-to-wall publicity generated by the 2009 contest.
